It had been a few years since she'd actually been to the main lounge on SB7... It hadn't changed much though. Smiling to herself as she walked over to the bar, ordering a whiskey on the rocks before making her way to a table with a good view of incoming traffic. A polite nod to RAFT and the officer she didn't recognize, grinning at the parrot.
"Admiral."

"I know, she is so so spoiled..." She grinned at her bird, who just looked up with a seemingly 'who, me?' innocent look. It was too much to take, out she reached to ruffle those soft and warm feathers that coated her avian companion.
The word 'Admiral' Distracted her though, glancing up FawThawly recognized the captain's pips on the newest entrant to the lounge. "Greetings, Captain."

"Call me Kia... Formality is generally for those that think far too much of themselves, Admirals excluded, as often as they've pulled me out of the proverbial fire and the occassions they cranked up the heat to the fire... They've earned the formality."
She laughed softly, taking a sip from the glass in front of her.
"She's beautiful." Indicating to the parrot. "What type is she? I didn't mean to interrupt your conversation."

"African Grey" She motioned to the bird who spontaniously started to preen herself, had to look good for the new people after all. "I have had her about 25 years, so she is just old enough to be totally full of herself."
"And I am FawThawly" She offered a hand to Kia. "It is also quite a pleasure"

"Is she child friendly? I've been thinking on getting Kaitlyn a pet... Something to keep her out of trouble."
Laughing quietly, she finished her drink setting the glass on the table before taking the Admiral's hand.
"Must say this visit is much more plesant than my last trip to Starbase 7."

"Parrots tend to be one person creatures." She reached out to ruffle those freshly preened feathers, making Penny pause just long enough to cast a baleful eye towards the Admiral before resuming to fix her plumage. "And the African Grey is the longest lived of them all. With the advances we have in veterinary sciences, I have been told she should live well past 100 years, so your child might be stuck with one for a very long time.. Just something to keep in mind."
"As for Penny, I don't know, I got her long after I had my two children"

The words 'your child' sunk in causing her to blink repeatedly.
"She's not mine." It was said a little too quickly. "She's the adopted daughter of one of my crew... I'm just watching her for now. We've got a lot in common now, so she's comfortable staying with me. Surprised she still wants to see me after spending over a year with me."
Giggling to herself.
"Over 100 years... That is quite a long time..."

Just a smile at the Captain's near instint reaction to calling Kaitlyn her child. Kia had either been asked that question once too often, or was covering something up. Not that it bothered FawThawly, it was just something to remember for later.
"They are a lot like having a kid, except they never grow up and leave the nest." She smiled at that small play on words, "If you can excuse the pun."

"My daughter isn't exactly pleased with me...Starfleet Academy isn't what she wants to do with her life.. She's still not used to being here.. I owe Kait more than I'll ever me able to repay..." She trailed off then looking back to the parrot.

Artasa looked away for a moment, then looked back to the Captain... Kia. "I'm Artasa Avery, Counselor aboard the Lexington," she said. "If you ever need someone to talk to..." she let the sentence trail off, not sure if she was overstepping her bounds.

Blinking repeatedly, and resisting every urge to run the other way, she gave Avery a smile.
"Thank you for your offer... should I ever find the desire to have my head picked apart, you'll be the first one I call... No.. the second.. I promised the Endeavor's CNS that he'd be the first."
She did smile then. "I'm sorry.. I have a slight aversion to Counselors. It's not you.. It is a pleasure to meet you. I generally work through my own issues though. Much of what I'd talk about would change your pretty green skin a sickly yellow. But thanks for the offer."

Artasa ran a hand through her hair, laughing a little. "It's fine, I understand completely. I'm having a hard time even getting a preliminary visit with anyone on the Lexington." She shook her head and took a sip of her drink. "It's either they're all afraid of counselors, or they're afraid of me. Either way, I don't blame them."

Tilting her head to the side slightly, she almost quirked a grin. "Many people believe that letting someone know a weakness or problem gives said person power over them. That's partly human nature and partly stupid blind arrogance. I don't want to burden anyone else with the problems or mistakes of a scattered past."

"Psychology one-oh-one," Artasa said. "But of course, I can't force anyone to talk to me. Or I could- I just choose not to. It kinda defeats the purpose, no? Removes the trust element I've always held vital to my position. For now I'm content to review files until someone feels the need to pay me a visit." She said all this with a smile, but it was obvious this particular course of action was extremely boring to her. She'd reorganized her filing system- twice- and still found time to paint a new landscape and started on a portrait. "In the meantime, I'm running low on green paint..." she said, more to herself.

"Oh its not so much a trust factor. Many of the problems I've faced or am facing tend to have a habit of finding the people that are confided in. Something I learned on the Praetorian. It nearly got that ship blown up twice."
Grinning as she leaned against the table, watching Avery.
"Tell you what... If you can find the recipe to my favorite desert... I'll talk to ya about life, the universe, and everything."
