"Don't be too harsh upon her Kia. Keep a wary eye upon her, of course, but all people make mistakes. Don't be so critical that you interpret a normal slip-up as sabotage, or human error as negligence. Despite her former training, she is only human."

"She may have been once... but the moment she accepted their training... as more than just a means to an end. The moment she didn't escape at the first opportunity... she became part of the problem. I am trying not to be though... I just can't see past the uniform she wore. That I wore. I -understand- what it is to be an Instructor. It's not something I want to repeat.."
Staring at the empty glass she focused on any imperfection in it, exerting just enough pressure to send spiderweb cracks throughout the glass, almost jumping not realizing what she'd done.
"How can I trust her when I know what she did willingly? She didn't start rebelling until she 'found' some files on her mother and I... and started 'questioning' things."

"I think you've answered your own question. Remember that you were once in the organization too, and not only in it, but an Instructor. She would have been raised in the organization and pumped full of their propaganda and brainwashing. Yet despite all of their harshest punishments for disobedience, she still ventured to want more information... and what she found made her question her loyalties."
Taking a sip upon his drink, he'd then continue. "She did question and did rebel against them. She came to that result on her own terms. It may not have been for the exact reasons that you turned against them... but she did indeed turn against them. Though the paths the two of you took may have been different, you still ended up at the same destination. Isn't that good enough?"

"So I'm supposed to blindly trust her because she said so? This is exactly the sort of thing I would have done when I was an Instructor. Gain trust, gain information, betray and go home."
She pushed the now fractured, but not a piece out of place, glass away from her.
"That sort of trusting thinking is what got me stabbed."

"I never said to blindly trust her. Keep a close eye on her and do whatever it takes to protect your crew. Just don't alienate a potentially powerful ally because she could turn out to be an enemy." Grinning somewhat, trying to lift the mood, "I guess I'm saying to play Politician like we did with the Klingons. Don't turn your back to them, but don't stab them just because they might shoot you."

She frowned at the glass, then looked over at Matt, she still had that hurt look in her blue eyes.
"I don't know that I could when the time comes. If it came down to the ship or Kaidie that would be easy... but likely it wont be so simple. I still don't know how they got her off the ship before it exploded..."

His gaze focuses upon the glass for a few moments. It intrigued him.. she had such fine control of telekinetic abilities. While he had trained for years in mental shielding and touch-telepathy, telekinesis had been one area he could never become adept in.
"I'm sure if you talk to Tom about some of this, he could help you keep a balanced view. This isn't a decision you have to carry on your own, Kia. There are people who are willing to share the burden with you."

"I'm not carrying it alone... I just can't think of a solution that solves everything. On one hand she's a threat to the Federation, and her allies, and needs to be stopped at all costs. On the other... she's my daughter. Whether she hates me or not... She's my little girl."
Her hands clenched into fists for a moment, before she regained control of her rather odd temper. Looking a little lost for her, giving him a sad sort of smile.
"Thank you for being here Matt..."

"You don't have to thank me.. we've been through a lot together. While it was hard to lose the first Ithilkirya.. and even though many did die.. if not for your help, all of my crew and I might have all perished at the hands of the agents. " He would finish up his drink after that, reflecting upon the past.
He had never been quite the same since the incident aboard the original Ithy.. but then again who would have? Dozens of his crew members had died, while the ship itself was torn apart by.. children. That had marked a new chapter in Matt's life. It led him to abandon his previous quest as the politician-officer who climbed the ranks to secure power, sending him into a time of soul searching and self-reinvention.

The mention of the first Ithy she frowned at the glass again. "I'm sorry that happened. I still don't know why they went after the Ithy. They probably after her to make a point. And as far as lives go... Its not acceptable to us... But its just collateral damage to them.."

"It is hard to understand at times... how some people could be so thoroughly evil. Though you'd know that much better than I.." Not speaking for a few moments, he would try and change the subject. "I suppose that is why you have that lovely holodeck program that the wedding was held in? It seemed like such a serene place.. where one could just relax. Especially that forest... I don't know what it was about it.. but it seemed so real."

Tasa entered the Lounge and almost instantly spotted the three. For a fraction of a second, she turned on the pheromones, letting Al know she was there without causing a distraction to anyone else in the room. Then she crossed the room, sitting on Al's other side, placing a hand gently on his arm. "What's wrong?" she asked softly.

"The program... Yes.. That's because it is real. That was my childhood home, and the only safe haven I knew."
That got a genuine smile out of her. "The forest is unique. I can say with a good bit of certainty there isn't another like it in the multiverse."
Peeking around Al, she gave Tasa a smile. "Hello, Tasa."

Matt's gaze would shift to the woman who entered, offering a polite smile. "Good evening." After a moment, he would glance back to Kia. "No wonder you chose you have your wedding there, then.. though I'm sad that it turned out as it did. I don't suppose I would be able to get a copy of that holoprogram, would I?"

"The wedding was fine. I removed a few key elements from the house for the wedding. The groundskeepers would have had a fit with that many people tromping on their grass... I can make you a copy. Remind me one day we're on the holodeck and I'll explain the forest to you. You're half vulcan so you likely felt it, even in holo format" She didn't comment further on it.
